PRI Ratings - Week 7

I guess the biggest quibble would be the placement of Wisconsin, but in a system that rewards road wins and difficult schedules, they fall short of acclaim. Full credit for destroying the bilge they've mostly played thus far, but a win at Michigan State next Saturday will move them up the standings fairly quickly.

Boise State with their 4 road wins stay at #1.

Biggest gain from Week 6: Ohio State 74 -> 15, 59 places
Biggest loss from Week 6: Louisville 71 -> 109, 38 places

  1. Hi this is SpartanBDF from the only colors etc. I wanted to post a comment asking more questions, but didn't want to come across as trolling so I thought I'd move it over here.

    I'm all for a system that rewards playing a difficult sled away from home and I too think wisky is overrated. That said, Texas is ranked 3rd ahead of Oklahoma who just pimpslapped them 55-17 two weeks ago and just behind ok state who beat them this past weekend. How do you reconcile the situation where Texas is ranked 3rd even though that's probably not deserved?

  2. Hello, this is SpartanBDF from the only colors. I wanted to ask a question or two, but didn't want to come off as troll-ey. I'm all for a system that exposes Wisconsin as overrated because I think they are. However, when you see Tejas end up third in the rankings ahead of Oklahoma who just crushed them 55-17 and just one spot below OK State who just beat them up pretty good, what do you think of that? Does that come across as statistical anomaly?

  3. The fact that your system ranks a 6-0 team at behind a 1-5 team (Oregon State) that they defeated head-to-head is something that probably qualifies as more than a "quibble," and more as a sign that your formula is VERY fundamentally broken. It's very apparent from some of the teams you've got in the top 20 of your poll (Tulsa, Toledo, Nevada, SJSU) that your formula gives entirely too much credit for simply losing to good teams, and not nearly enough weighting to the actual wins and losses that should be the primary determining factor in any non-points based ranking system.

  4. 1. I apologize for being so delayed in approving the comments and replying. Getting used to a new work schedule.

    2. I welcome all feedback, positive or negative.

    3. To the issue at hand; even I think the system does a poor job this time of year. It was worse when I released the first set of ratings after week four. My belief is that it's schedule inequity that's giving these wacky results. Judge things at the end of the season. Things then may not be perfect, but they'll be more accurate than now.
