Moving The Goal Posts: SEC Predictions
Alabama over Georgia in the SEC title game on their way to an appearance in the BCS Title Game.
Alabama is stacked. Far, far, far too much is being made over the uncertainty at QB. Greg McElroy hadn't started a game before 2009 and that team won the national title. The QB's job is to hand off to Trent Richardson and get out of the way of him and the defense. The schedule sets up well. LSU and Arkansas both visit Tuscaloosa. Trips to Florida and Penn State aren't nearly as hard as they would be some years. Traveling to Starkville is difficult, and the Iron Bowl is what it is, but Alabama probably has revenge on their mind in the latter scenario. Helping Alabama is that the rest of the division is flawed. LSU has distractions and a rough opening stretch of games and has to travel to Tuscaloosa. Losing Knile Davis hurts Arkansas. Mississippi State's offense was mediocre last season. Auburn is depleted but will still put up points and yards. Houston Nutt has apparently stopped recruiting at Mississippi. Must be the David Cutcliffe curse.
The SEC wisely starts conference games earlier than most conference, and it appears that the East comes down to South Carolina at Georgia. South Carolina is the more talented team, and Georgia is loaded with questions, but I think ultimately they'll be the more consistent team. Florida is an enigma to me. The talent is there, but not at QB. People keep asking what Weis can do with Brantley; Weis had as many ugly years offensively at ND as good ones. Tennessee has been hurt by the coaching turnover and off-field incidents. Still a very average side which makes things tough in-conference. Kentucky's weak non-conference schedule should allow them to make a bowl, but it's doesn't seem right that a team that can go 2-6 in-conference and make a bowl. Vanderbilt is in their usual position. Uncertainty at QB is something a program like that cannot survive.
